A Vision of the Jewel of the Pamirs

Project Overview

Khorog is a city nestled 2,200 meters above sea level in the Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan, with a population of 30,000.
This project aims to develop spaces and technology that will revitalize and sustain the culture and economic development of the region.

Residential Units
Residential units cater to the needs of an individual, a family, and the community as a whole. The façade of the buildings is made of vertical gardens which will given an opportunity to the residents to further engage with nature.

Economic Development
Business institutions will be built to create jobs for the 40% unemployed adults of Khorog. Large factories running 100% on cleaning hydroelectric energy will produce high quality refined metals, glass, wood and stone to allow the people to participate in the transform their beloved home into a city.

Jamatkhanas
Every street will contain a Jamatkhana, each one made in the same form and materials, but in different colors representing different natural stones. This one located on Dasht Street expresses the love contained within ruby, the name of Ar-Rahman, the one in Ges represents the wisdom of amethyst stone, Al-Hakim etc. The façade is made of cast glass from borosilicte rods, bringing in the luminescence of outdoor light. The outer façade responds to solar radiation and closes at times of harsh sun exposure, and at other times opens to let the light in fully.

Elders Center
The center for elders aims to preserve the ancestral values that have been held at the heart of our culture. Elders of each street will be able to come together to voice their opinion about the operation of the city. They will gain the authority to propose practices that the rest of the community can engage in, in order to revive the essence of being a Pamiri Muslim. The snake fountain sculpture represents the healing that will come with the inclusion of the elders in city governance.

Masculine and Feminine Centers
Masculine and feminine centers will be built on every street. These are inspired by the heroism and masculinity of Hazrat Ali and the radiance and healing gentleness of Bibi Fatimah-a-Zahra. Thus each person will gain an appreciation of social responsibility and relationship towards each other.
